Climbing & Bouldering

World-class climbing in the high country
Man Bouldering at Linville Gorge

Climbing in the Boone area is an amazing way to be right in the middle of the area's most expansive views. On Grandfather Mountain's Rough Ridge, Ship Rock towers 4,400 feet above sea level. The scenery is nowhere wilder than on the crags of the Linville Gorge Wilderness, "one of the top climbing destinations in the Southeast," according to REI. The climbs at all these sites are as different from one another as the diverse routes climbers find at the many area bouldering sites, many reached by easy, woodsy walks.

Whether you are after multi-pitch ascents of awe-inspiring cliffs, or easy access bouldering (climbing close to the ground, without ropes or harnesses) the Boone area has a range of topnotch climbing experiences.

On cliff or crag, the High Country boasts a long list of classic East Coast climbs and Boone area professional outfitters have all the gear, guided trips, instruction, and information you will need to clip into high adventure in the High Country!
