Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is the second most visited unit of the National Park Services and welcomes more than one million visitors annually. The Parkway was "born" in the NC High Country at Cumberland Knob in 1935 and it was completed here at Grandfather Mountain in 1987 with the opening of the iconic Linn Cove Viaduct.

The Parkway drive is a relaxing 45 mph route providing visitors the opportunity to explore the Boone Area in many different ways. Boone Area hallmarks of the Blue Ridge Parkway experience include over 50 hiking trails, more than 20 overlooks, electric autumn color, and explosive spring blooms making the Parkway a "must see" on the itinenary.

Ways of exploring the Parkway are as endless as they are vast. It is impossible to take a bad photograph on "America's favorite drive" as it is beautiful anytime of year, with fall being its most coveted season. So, make sure to bring a camera while traveling along this famous leisure road! In the Boone area, getting a shot of the Iconic Linn Cove Viaduct is important since it is one of the most photographed spots on the Parkway.

Boone area Parkway landmarks range from easy trails to experience nature, dozens of spectacular waterfalls such as Crabtree Falls, Linville Falls and the Cascades, to Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the East and only a short hour away from the Boone Area.
