Weather

Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Boone NC is at an elevation of 3,333 feet but surrounding areas can reach elevations up to 5,500 feet. Our elevation provides for cool, comfortable summers and winter weather conditions that are favorable to our three area ski resorts. Average high temps range from 78 in July to 39 in January, depending on the season and average lows range from 58 (July) to 23 (January).

Summer

With an average daytime high of 77 degrees and cool mountain breezes, Boone offers visitors a break from the summer heat.

Fall

From the stunning vistas of the Blue Ridge Parkway to the peaceful beauty of Valle Crucis, the Boone area is a blaze of glory during fall leaf season.  The spectacular color palette against a Carolina blue sky is world famous.  You will definitely want to pack a light jacket or sweater for the cool fall evenings.

Winter

The South’s most concentrated cluster of ski slopes tempt the entire region with winter activities like skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing & sledding and ice skating.  We suggest you bundle up in multiple layers as high and low temps can vary during this season.  Hats, gloves and scarfs are recommended too.

Spring

Due to our varied elevations, we have a late spring compared to other non-mountain destinations.  March can still be cold enough for us to having late season skiing well into the month.  April starts the warm up, but it is typically May before we get our spring blooms and the trees have their new leaves.  You will want to pack a sweater and jacket.
