Road Maintenance In the Boone Area

  • A bridge is being replaced near Highway 105 and Broadstone Road intersection between Boone and Banner Elk. Expect delays and lane closures traveling to and from Boone on weekdays. Download the Waze app for the best re-route options. 
  • A section of the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Boone will be closed for a bridge replacement in Laurel Springs, NC until November 2024. Find more details, and detour information, at this link
  • Several sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway will be closed in the winter of 2022/2023.
    • From Jan. 2 - Feb. 6 there will be intermittent closures from milepost 292 - 298.5 (Aho Gap to Green Hill Road). 
    • From Feb. 6 - April 1, 2023 milepost 217 to 248 (near the VA border) will have intermittent closures. 
    • There will be intermittent closures from milepost 298.5 to 305 until April 2023 (Holloway Mountain Road to Highway 221 in Linville).

Open in the Boone Area:


Most restaurants, retail businesses, and attractions in the Boone area have opened at full capacity
  • Please be patient with restaurants, many of which are experiencing staff shortages and supply chain disruption
Blue Ridge Parkway - The Blue Ridge Parkway roads and hiking trails in the area are open, weather permitting.

Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park - The park is open. Biking trails will close periodically in winter due to freezing and thaw conditions. 

The Appalachian Theatre - Open for events and weekly tours. View the theatre's current schedule by clicking here.

The Turchin Center - The gallery is open to the public. See the website for hours. The Gallery closes for University Break from Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.

The Jones House - Downstairs gallery and restrooms open. See the website for hours.

The Children's Playhouse - Open to the public, reservations are required. 

Appalachian Ski Mountain -  Open for the winter season, advanced reservations are required.

Beech Mountain Resort - Open for the season, offering snow tubing, skiing, and snowboarding. 

Sugar Mountain Resort - Open for the season, offering skiing and snowboarding.

Hawksnest Snowtubing - Open for the winter season, advanced reservations are highly recommended. 

Mast General Store in Downtown Boone 

The Original Mast General Store and Annex in Valle Crucis 

Mystery Hill - Open daily, 9 am to 6 pm. Reservations recommended.

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum - Open to the public with free admission, see hours on their website.

Apple Hill Farm - Open for tours by reservation only. 

The Blowing Rock - Open daily, weather permitting.

Tweetsie Railroad - Open for Tweetsie Christmas. See the website for operating hours.

Grandfather Mountain (Attraction) - Reservations for the attraction should be made online, in advance. Purchase tickets at

Grandfather Mountain State Park - Trails and restrooms are open. Learn more about park operations HERE.

Elk Knob State Park - Trails and restrooms are open. Learn more about park hours and operations HERE.

Sky Valley Zip Tours - Open for ziplining on select days. Make reservations online.

High Gravity Adventures - Open by reservation on Saturdays through December 25th.

Boone Golf Club - Closed for the 2022 season

The Parkway Craft Center at Moses Cone Memorial Park is closed for the season.
