559 West King Street, Boone, NC 28607
The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country is an historic landmark for the town of Boone. Built in 1938, the theatre operated for almost 70 years until it closed its doors in 2007. Major and minor Hollywood movies were shown there, as well as traveling performance acts and music groups throughout the decades - including Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys, Hill Billy Jamboree & Quiz Shows, Lester Flatts, Earl Scruggs & the Foggy Bottom Boys, and Doc Watson. The Appalachian Theatre was recently completely renovated inside and out, designed to closely reproduce the original 1938 exterior appearance, before its Grand Re-opening in late 2019. Today the theatre is host to live acts, film screenings with panelist discussions, and movie nights. To learn more about upcoming events and fascinating history of the Theatre, visit the website.
