Guided Hike at Blue Ridge Conservancy

Please join Blue Ridge Conservancy for an educational hemlock hike with the Hemlock Restoration Initiative at the BRC campus trail. The hike is a 2.2 mile loop, and is considered moderate terrain.

Along the way, we will traverse through one of HRI’s Hemlock Conservation Areas (HCA). These hemlocks were treated in winter of 2023. The hike will also take participants past a hemlock health monitoring plot to discuss methods of evaluating treatment success. Overall, participants can expect to learn about hemlock ecology, the threat of the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid, and a variety of different control methods being used on both state and national forests in NC, as well as on other public and private lands across the range of eastern hemlock.
