Boone Area snowmaking just keeps getting better, ski seasons keep getting longer (often from November to late-March-even April), and slope conditions stay more consistent. Even when the country has a milder winter-massive snowmaking firepower can quickly cover all the slopes and great conditions are as close as a cold day...Add the High Country's natural snow and you have nationally significant skiing in a spectacular setting.
Just last season, there was another change at Sugar Mountain Resort: a new high speed, 6 person chairlift called the Summitt Express. This chairlift can take you from base to summit in a mere 5 minutes. "Our guests expect to be offered something new every year. Therefore it's important that we continue to develop and provide innovations with a wow factor," explains Sugar Mountain Resort Owner, Gunther Jochl. New snow machines have been added and the cafeteria has been remodled offering freshly made food to order.
Our three area ski resorts (Appalachian Ski Mountain; Beech Mountain Resort; and Sugar Mountain Resort) offer everything from skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating, lessons and more. Check out their individual listings for more info.
The Boone area is also home to Hawksnest, the largest snow tubing park on the East coast. Hawksnest features four different tubing areas with over 30 lanes of fun.
